As EVP and General Counsel of the National Music Publishers’ Association, Ms. Aguirre oversees all of NMPA’s legal, business and policy objectives. Her role is to protect and enforce the copyrights and intellectual property interests of songwriters and music publishers. Ms. Aguirre has aggressively fought digital piracy and infringement litigating against digital platforms, and she works with the largest companies, digital services and record labels to ensure that publishers and songwriters are being fairly compensated for the use of their songs.
Ms. Aguirre was integrally involved in the negotiation, drafting and passage of the Music Modernization Act, legislation that amended U.S. Copyright law and led to the creation of a new licensing company, the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC). After co-leading a team that developed the MLC, she currently serves as the statutorily designated non-voting publisher representative on the MLC board. In 2018, Billboard honored her as the Women in Music Co-Executive of the Year for her work on the MMA and MLC.
